The menu of VMware licensing agreements is relatively simple since there are only 3 main license agreements: VPP, PPE and ELA. Below is a brief overview of all three, starting from the bottom with few customer expenses/places and ending with the complex and business-friendly agreement. VPP and Discounts – VMware has defined four discount levels that range from 4% to 12% for qualifying orders, based on the sum of VPP points collected by the end customer. Discounts can be applied to license purchases and do not apply to service and support. This does not necessarily apply to titles such as vSphere. If you don`t need additional hosts by next year, it`s not a good idea to buy more hardware just to run the licenses at an early stage. This is very important for multi-layered software titles such as vRealize Operations Manager, NSX, new SRM license and others. The worst possible outcome is to come to the end of an agreement and have software that was never provided. This is done by being a token-based licensing program, which means that customers purchase “tokens” to assign them to use VMWare products rather than getting points after purchase as in VPP. In addition, it provides access to future upgrades to ensure customers can get the “latest and greatest” VMware products. EPP, however, is limited to customers in the region, not global customers. The Volume Purchase Program provides first-time customers with substantial and incremental discounts for purchasing at least 25,000 $US in eligible VMware products.
Customers sign up for VPP, earn points with every purchase, and receive bonuses. VPP, PPE, and ELA have particular advantages, but it can be difficult to find a solution that fits your business. It can be difficult to determine which VMWare license agreement template should be chosen. Although VMWare has tried to facilitate the decision by choosing limited choices, implementation is a high-risk investment in the long term, so caution should be exercised.
