Is Kolter Homes a Good Builder?

If you are looking to buy a new home in South Florida, you may have figured out, like I recently did, that there are a ton of new construction home builders in our area. That may sound like a positive aspect, but trying to figure out which builders are the best, and subsequently, the worst, takes an awful lot of time and research. I figured that since buying a new home is such a major undertaking, that it would be well worth the effort to dig deep and get as much information about the homes (and the builders) that interested me most.

If you are already living in South Florida, you very well may have heard of Kolter Home Builders, as well as a few other local builders. The reason I have chosen Kolter Homes to discuss is that in doing some extensive research, and checking off the pros and cons of various local builders, that I decided that a Kolter Homes house would be a good fit for me, although I had not purchased yet.

Here is why I believe Kolter Homes is a good home builder

Kolter Homes is based right in West Palm Beach and has been building homes in the area for over 20 years. I have heard way too many stories about fly-by-night builders who are nowhere to be found when an unexpected issue arises sometime after the development is complete. Kolter has been a member of the BBB since 2005 and has an A- rating, which is pretty much the equivalent of “batting a thousand” in baseball terms – or in non-sports terms, that’s a pretty great rating for a builder. I am not usually one for looking up BBB ratings, but in this case I was glad I did. The BBB takes a ton of aspects into consideration when rating businesses that the average Joe, like me, may not have access to. Such as, how long they have been in business, transparency of business practices, licensing, number and age of complaints, adequate response to such complaints, and accuracy of advertising claims, to name a few.

Along with taking the BBB’s word for Kolter Homes’ fine reputation, I asked around and searched online for the opinions of real home buyers who have done business with Kolter – I also read up on how Kolter was viewed by the press. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they not only build beautiful, and well-functioning homes, but are many of the area resident’s number 1 pick of local builders. They have recently won several awards* and have been written up favorably by publications like the Sun Sentinel. One of Kolter Homes’ most covered ventures is an upscale development on 270 acres at Interstate 95 and Donald Ross Road in Palm Beach Gardens in northern Palm Beach County, named “Alton”. The 350+ unit first phase is complete, with the second phase (385 single-family homes starting at $1 million) is underway. If you want to get a first-hand look at the quality and style of Kolter Homes’ workmanship, take a short ride to visit one of Alton’s model townhouses or single-family homes. At best, you may just fall in love the moment you walk through the front door. At worst, you will have experienced the work of a solid and reputable builder to which you can use as a reference point while continuing the search for your dream home.
